Holiday Highlights
Welcome Families! This 10-night itinerary is designed specifically for your party of 8. We have balanced relaxing beach days on Gargano's famous golden sands with exciting active days tailored for the two 16-year-olds and the 6-year-old.
Family 1: 3 Adults, 1 Teen (16), 1 Kid (6)
Family 2: 2 Adults, 1 Teen (16)
You will explore sea caves on a private boat, take a day cruise to the pristine Tremiti Islands, feed deer in the ancient Foresta Umbra, dine on a historic fishing platform (Trabucco), and conclude with an unforgettable, stress-free ferry tour of the Amalfi Coast.
π Critical Logistics Note
Amalfi Coast driving is highly congested in July. On your checkout day (Saturday, July 25), the region enforces license plate restrictions (*targhe alterne*). To bypass this and avoid stressful driving, you will park your 2 rental cars safely in Salerno and cruise the coast via the Travelmar Ferry. It's fast, gorgeous, and ensures you make your 7:00 PM car drop-off in Naples!
β±οΈ Beach Partner Booking
De Sio Country Village has partner beach clubs on Baia di Manaccora. In peak July, sunbeds and umbrellas sell out. We highly recommend confirming beach packages directly with De Sio when finalizing your booking, or using the links in the "Logistics" tab to book ahead.
Daily Schedule
π Driving Directions
The drive from Naples Airport to Peschici is about 277 km and takes roughly 3h 50m without traffic. Take the **A16/E842 Autostrada** towards Canosa, exit at **Candela**, and follow **SS655** towards Foggia. From Foggia, follow signs for **Manfredonia/Mattinata** (SS89). Enjoy the dramatic cliff views on the final leg into Peschici.
Highway Tips
Ensure you have cash or a credit card ready for highway toll stations (approx. β¬12 per car). Have offline Google Maps downloaded, as mobile signal can be spotty in the mountainous sections of Gargano.
Daily Schedule
π Peschici Old Town Tips
Peschici is built on a rocky promontory. The historic center is pedestrian-only. Park in the designated paid parking lots just outside the old town walls (look for blue line parking spaces, and buy a ticket from the machine).
6-Year-Old Tip
The walk in Peschici is hilly with cobblestone stairs. Strollers can be difficult to navigate, so a baby carrier or walking slowly is recommended for the little one.
Daily Schedule
β΅ Why a Private Charter?
With 8 people, booking a private boat is highly recommended over a crowded public tour. It gives you flexible swim stops, a personalized skipper, and plenty of space for the kids to move around. Total cost is around β¬450-β¬500 (approx. β¬56 per person), which is comparable to group ticket prices but vastly superior in quality!
What to Bring
Snorkel masks (the teens will love seeing the fish near the cliffs), beach towels, reef-safe sunscreen, and motion sickness medication if anyone is sensitive to waves.
Daily Schedule
π² A Break from the Heat
In July, coastal temperatures can exceed 35Β°C (95Β°F). Foresta Umbra is dense and elevated, providing a refreshing canopy that is typically 5-7Β°C cooler than the coast. It is a fantastic change of pace for the kids.
What to Wear
Pack a light jacket/sweater just in case, and wear comfortable walking shoes or sneakers. Mosquito repellent is highly recommended for the forest trails.
Daily Schedule
π½οΈ Dining on a Trabucco
**Al Trabucco da Mimì** is world-famous. It is highly recommended to book the restaurant or sunset aperitivo 1-2 months in advance via their website. If fully booked, we have listed *Trabucco di Monte Pucci* (Day 3) as a fantastic alternative.
β οΈ Read Before You Go: Beach Access
This is the one day on the trip that can fail on the morning, so treat it as provisional. The free beach is capped at **20-30 people a day** and the passes **cannot be booked ahead** β they are named, one-day, issued in person that same morning at the Mattinata Info Point (via Matino 64, **+39 0884 597291**), and once you have used one you cannot get another for six days. The cliff elevators are for hotel guests only. Sources disagree on whether passes are handed out at weekends at all, and Day 5 is a Sunday β **ring the Info Point the day before and ask.**
Plan B
If the passes are gone, do not spend the day fighting it. Take the free SP53 viewpoints for the photo of the stacks, then head to an unrestricted beach on the Mattinata coast such as **Mattinatella** for the swimming. The sunset dinner at Al Trabucco da Mimì is the anchor of this day and is unaffected either way.
Daily Schedule
π³οΈ Ferry Information
Ferries are operated by **Navi Tremiti**. Round trip tickets cost approximately β¬60-β¬70 for adults and β¬40 for kids. It is strongly advised to book online in advance, as passenger numbers are limited.
Archipelago Tips
Rent a 40hp rib boat (gommone) at San Domino harbor. You do **not** need a boating license to drive these, and they are incredibly fun for the teens! The water around Tremiti is a protected marine reserve, offering the best snorkeling in the Adriatic.
Daily Schedule
π Vieste Parking & Tips
Vieste is the largest town in Gargano. The old town is pedestrianized. Park in the large public lot along the **Lungomare Cristoforo Colombo** near the port, then walk up into the historic center.
Teen Action
Vieste has fantastic windsurfing and kitesurfing centers on the north beaches. If the teens want an active lesson, you can book a 2-hour beginner course at one of the lidos.
Daily Schedule
ποΈ Historical Context
The Sanctuary of Monte Sant'Angelo is one of the oldest shrines in Western Europe dedicated to the Archangel Michael. The cave itself is incredibly atmospheric and stays cool year-round.
Dress Code
As the Sanctuary is an active sacred church, shoulders and knees must be covered. Pack light shawls or light pants in the car for everyone before making the drive.
Daily Schedule
β±οΈ About Zaiana Beach
Known historically as the "beach of young people," Zaiana is protected from the wind by high limestone walls. Access involves walking down a steep flight of stairs from the cliffside parking lot, so take your time with the 6-year-old.
Sun Lounger Bookings
Spiaggia di Zaiana has a private beach club (Lido Zaiana) that takes reservations. Booking a set of umbrellas and chairs in advance is highly recommended for hot July days.
Daily Schedule
π· Farewell Dinner Booking
**La Ripa Ristorante** is highly acclaimed. It is set in a former 10th-century monastery and features a terrace suspended over the sea. Ask for a table on the edge of the terrace when booking!
Checklist for Checkout
Pay any remaining resort fees at the De Sio reception this evening to avoid delays in the morning, as you will need to leave at 7:00 AM sharp.
Daily Schedule
π³οΈ Travelmar Ferry Solution
This ferry route is the **ultimate travel hack** for the Amalfi Coast. It avoids the narrow, congested clifftops, ZTL camera fines, and license plate restrictions that would affect your two cars. Parking at **Park Concordia** in Salerno is secure and located right next to the pier.
Ferry Tickets
Book the Salerno-Amalfi-Positano-Salerno loop in advance at **travelmar.it**. At published fares that is β¬12.00 + β¬10.00 + β¬17.00 = **β¬39.00 per adult**, far cheaper than fuel, tolls, and parking two cars in Amalfi/Positano.
Why these exact times
The day is built backwards from the 7:00 PM car return, and the margins are real. Salerno-Naples is 71 km and about 52 minutes with clear roads, so the cars must leave Salerno by 5:00 PM. That means the **15:30** Positano sailing, which means the **14:00** from Amalfi, which means the **11:40** from Salerno, which means leaving Peschici at **7:00 AM**. Miss the 11:40 and the next is 13:10, which costs you Positano. Check the live timetable before you travel β these are the summer times.
π Road Trip & Beach Club Logistics
1. Naples to Peschici Drive Details
Route: Naples Airport (NAP) β Autostrada A16/E842 towards Canosa β Exit Candela β SS655 to Foggia β SS89 to Manfredonia & coastal road to Peschici.
Duration: about 3h 50m (277 km) without traffic.
Highway Tolls: Expect approx. β¬12 per car. Telepass lane is for transponders; use the card (carte) or cash lanes.
2. Salerno Parking (Amalfi Coast Day)
Location: Park Concordia (Piazza della Concordia, Salerno).
Hours: Open 24/7, secure gated facility.
Cost: Approx. β¬2.00 per hour. Conveniently situated 50 meters from the Travelmar Concordia ferry terminal.
3. Beach Clubs near De Sio Country Village
In peak summer, beach slots are scarce. We recommend booking loungers at these specific lidos:
- Lido Manaccora (Baia di Manaccora): Closest to De Sio. Clean waters, restaurant, playground. Contact De Sio directly for special guest rates.
- Lido Calenella (Spiaggia di Calenella): Very wide sandy beach, calm water. Great for the 6-year-old.
- Lido Zaiana (Spiaggia di Zaiana): Fun, rocky, active beach. Highly recommended for the two 16-year-olds.
4. ZTL (Zona a Traffico Limitato) Warning
Almost all historic Italian town centers (including Peschici, Vieste, Naples, and Salerno) have ZTL zones. These are camera-enforced restricted zones for residents only.
β οΈ Critical Warning
Never cross a ZTL sign (a white circle with a red border). Fines are typically β¬110+ per entry and will be charged to your rental car company card.

The Gargano coast is lined with over 20 historic trabucchi β giant wooden fishing machines that extend over the sea on wooden stilts. Many date back centuries. Several have been converted into unique open-air restaurants.
- Trabucco di Monte Pucci β Near Peschici, open for dinner with reservations.
- Al Trabucco da MimΓ¬ β World-famous, sunset aperitivo & tasting menus. Book 2 months ahead.
- Trabucco di San Lorenzo β North of Vieste, more rustic and intimate.
The Essential Red Wines
π₯ The White Wines
Bombino Bianco β The indigenous white grape of Gargano. Fresh, aromatic, with citrus and white flower notes. Outstanding with local fish dishes. Restaurant price: β¬12-β¬18 per bottle.
Fiano Minutolo β An aromatic variety gaining prestige. Intense floral bouquet with notes of peach and apricot. Try with antipasti of local cured meats and burrata.
Moscato di Apricena β A rare sweet white exclusive to the Gargano area. Golden, honeyed, and perfect with local almond pastries and dried figs after dinner.
Sommelier Tip: What to Order
At any Gargano restaurant, ask for "un Nero di Troia della zona" (a local Nero di Troia) β the house red will be outstanding value at β¬12-β¬16 per bottle. For white with seafood, simply say "un Bombino Bianco fresco, per favore".
πͺ Where to Buy
For the best prices on regional wines to take home:
- Enogastronomia Bua (Corso Lorenzo Fazzini 71, Vieste) β a long-standing food and wine shop stocking Capitanata whites, rosΓ©s and reds to take home, alongside oil, cheese and preserves. It sits on the corso in the newer part of town, not the old centre.
- Cantina Cooperativa Svevo-Lucera (Viale Orazio 1, Lucera) β sells Cacc'e Mmitte di Lucera DOC direct. It is 103 km from Peschici, about 1h 45m each way, and shuts on Sundays and over lunch β a deliberate trip, not a detour.
- Local Supermarkets β Surprisingly excellent wine sections. Look for "Puglia IGT" wines in Conad or Eurospin for daily drinking at β¬4-β¬8/bottle.
EU Duty-Free Allowance
Travelling within the EU? You can bring back up to 90 litres of wine for personal use! Stock up on Primitivo β it costs 3x more at home.

π° Budget Dining Tips
- Lunch menus: Many restaurants offer a "menu del giorno" (menu of the day) at lunch for β¬10-β¬15 including primo, secondo, water, and coffee.
- Avoid the lungomare: Seafront restaurants charge 30-50% more. Walk 1-2 streets inland for identical food at local prices.
- Caraffa di vino: Order house wine by the carafe ("mezzo litro") for β¬4-β¬6 instead of bottled wine at β¬14-β¬25.
- "Coperto": A cover charge of β¬1-β¬3/person is normal in Italy β it's not a scam, it's tradition.
- Self-catering: De Sio has kitchenettes. Visit the local Conad or Todis supermarket for breakfast supplies, fresh fruit, and snacks. Budget β¬30-β¬40/day for both families.
- Aperitivo hour: Between 6-8pm many bars offer a free buffet of snacks when you buy a drink (β¬5-β¬8). Great way to save on dinner!
π Must-Try Local Dishes
- Paposcia β Wood-fired slipper focaccia, the signature street food of Peschici.
- Orecchiette alle cime di rapa β Ear-shaped pasta with broccoli rabe, anchovy, and chilli. The soul of Puglia.
- Tiella di Vieste β Layered bake of rice, mussels, potatoes, and tomato. Vieste's signature dish.
- Burrata β Creamy mozzarella filled with stracciatella and cream. Puglia invented it. Order it everywhere.
- Caciocavallo Podolico β Rare, aged cheese from Podolica cows that graze wild on Gargano hillsides. Smoky, complex, expensive but worth trying.
- Taralli β Crunchy ring-shaped biscuits flavoured with fennel seeds or chilli. Buy bags at any bakery for β¬2-β¬3 as car snacks.
- Ostie Ripiene β Monte Sant'Angelo specialty: oversized wafer biscuits filled with almonds, honey, and spices.
- Limoncello β Homemade lemon liqueur, served ice-cold after dinner. Buy a bottle in Amalfi on Day 11!
